{Decor: For the Birds}

July 27, 2009

Recently, we were talking with Gloria Wong about one of the great trends for this year which focuses on our flying friends - birds and their habitats.

Many couples have long used “lovebirds” as a graphic motif for their wedding invitations. And why shouldn’t they?! Birds are extremely versatile and can be interpreted in so many ways for different styles of wedding. Gloria notes that "birds can be cute and whimsical, classic and elegant, or even dark and goth". To augment this “lovebirds” motif, event designers like Gloria are "flocking to neighborhood and online retailers for birdcages!".

Birdcages are a truly festive way to spice up décor and to carry on a “lovebirds” concept! Heck, even if you’re not into birds themselves, don’t dismiss the use of birdcages on their own! They come in all different shapes and sizes. There are bamboo birdcages that resemble pagodas for Asian-inspired weddings. There are metal birdcages with curly cues and floral print embellishments for Garden-inspired weddings. Then, there are non-descript wooden birdcages that could easily be spray-painted to fit your wedding colors!

Think of the all the possibilities, folks!!!

Gloria came up with a couple really great combinations. Rich shades of plum and raspberry birdcages for a jewel-toned wedding. To die. Bright yellow birdcages for a yellow and grey mod wedding. Yum. Kelly green birdcages for a preppy green and white wedding. Sweet. The color ideas are endless!

Placement of birdcages are also endless! Hang them from trees as though they were lanterns. Spread them out on dinner tables as floral vessels. Lay them out on coffee tables in a lounge area. Line them down your ceremony aisle.

No matter what, Gloria feels that you need to just "get creative and have fun with them!". We couldn't agree more!! Thanks again, Gloria, for a great decor tip.

{Décor : Oh Red, White & Blue}

July 3, 2009

In a recent issue of Harper’s Bazaar Magazine, the editors sited Red, White & Blue as a color story to look out for. Being that July 4th is tomorrow, we’re thrilled to post this trend-right article about infusing these patriotic colors into your Summer wedding! The color palette evokes such a happy celebratory mood! Go ahead and play into the theme! Make red, white, and blue confetti for your guests to toss. Wear red pumps as you walk down the aisle! Use red, white, and blue printed paper for floral containers, mini umbrellas in drinks, and cones for ice cream. Don't forget some bright red soda pop! Provide festive sparklers at the end of the night!

In terms of what is the right shade to use, Gloria Wong of Gloria Wong Designs suggests that you "use a bright cherry red, true white, and shades of blue". Yes, shades of blue! From the predictable dark navy to sky blue and everything in between. Sprinkle in some stars and stripes for fun, but only use in moderation and in small scale.

The key according to Gloria "is to utilize the colors without making the event look like an Independence Day party".

We statue the red, white and blue and wish all of you a safe and happy 4th of July! Let freedom ring!!!

{Decor: Stolen Plate Press & Sugar Coat It Studio}

May 11, 2009

Since all of us here on the Pink List Panel are always stressing the importance of cohesion to our lovely brides and grooms, it's no surprise that we were over the moon when Gloria Wong found out about the collaborative projects between Stolen Plate Press and Sugar Coat It Studio.

Stolen Plate Press is a letterpress design company that offers delightfully naive and unconventional graphics on their paper goods. Sugar Coat It Studio is a cake company that specializes in fun, modern, and graphic-drive cakes.

Together, this super cool duo has created a graphic feast for the eyes (and tummy) with their line "Cakes and Cards".

Brides and Grooms, take this as a cue! Either knock on the doors of this dynamic duo to tie your wedding cake with your wedding paper goods or bring your invitation to your cake maker and ask them to interpret it into a cake!!!!

Remember, Cohesion, folk! Cohesion!!!!

We know that the best formula for a smooth and perfect wedding starts teamwork. If you have a story to share on your successful collaborations, let's hear about it. Send your story to pinkblossomlist@gmail.com

{Décor : Printed Candles}

April 24, 2009

Many of you were first introduced to Gloria Wong(GW) of Gloria Wong Design in a previous post. We've asked Gloria not only to write this one post but also to stay with the Pink Blossom List(PBL) indefinitely! She's here today to share with us her latest and greatest finds. Of course, like Gloria, the PBL is equally obsessed with everything candles lately. Candle containers, candle colors, candle sizes, candle shapes (excluding heart-shaped candles which really should only be reserved for Valentine’s Day, an 80s Flashback scrap booking party, or a little girl’s pink heart-themed birthday party), and all kinds of candle embellishments.
Gloria was recently introduced to this new company called Imageglow Candles that offers printed candles. These printed candles can make such a statement on your reception tables. These are some of her favorite prints from the collection! Very Southern California Happy Chic!
Gloria recommends combining these candles with white geometric chairs from Hartmann Studios, white square plates also from Hartmann Studios, a candy apple green linen, white ceramic square vases with wheatgrass centerpieces in different heights! Throw in some green apples and oranges to make this an even more upbeat table.

Ooh, we love it. And we love you, Gloria!

{Event Designers: Gloria Wong}

April 4, 2009

Nothing gives us more pleasure than finding wonderful vendors especially event designers since this seems to be one of the newer categories within the wedding realm. In the past, it seemed as if only celebrities or society clients could afford an event designer but unlucky for us they are now becoming more main stream.

One of our favorites is Gloria Wong of Gloria Wong Designs formerly of Sash & Sugar. This past week, Gloria launched her new website which is filled with a very comoplete gallery of real weddings that have a very sophisticated look.

Gloria's concepts start with developing a relationship with her clients and asking plenty of insightful questions. It's this attention to the particulars that make Gloria a very talented event designer. We can't wait to hear what you think of her work. We think it's exceptional.
